Shiraz has been the centre of Fars Province since the 7th century AD. It is located in west southern part of Iran. Farsi (Persian or Parsi) the language of Ancient Fars (Pars), has become the official language of Iran (Persia).
Its most important function, has been as a major artistic centre, synonymous with learning, nightingales, poetry and roses. Today, it is an important University town, and has a population of approximately 1.1 million.
Persepolis one of the greatest historical places of the world with civilization over 2000 years is located near Shiraz. Today only the ruins of this place remaines. Pasargad also is located near Shiraz, where you can visit the tomb of Cyrus the great.
Shiraz is also the birthplace and resting place of the great Persian poets Hafez and Sa’adi. There are two remarkable monuments in Shiraz. One is dedicated to Hafez, the master of Persian lyrical poetry. The other one is dedicated to Sa'adi, the author of the famous Golestan, a book of sonnets called the Garden of Roses.
The most interesting buildings in Shiraz are located in the old part of the town. Among them are about a dozen mosques and lots of beautiful gardens.
Visiting Shiraz will make you satisfied of your choice! Do not hesitate and if you have the opportunities, keep in mind that Shiraz worths visiting!
